Fire and Emergency (FENZ) said crews were called to the property in the suburb of Frankton at 10.15am today.
An unconfirmed number of people were inside the house at the time, but have since been accounted for.
Crews from Hamilton, Te Rapa, and Hukanui remained at the scene to put out the fire, FENZ said.
