The recently reinstalled average-speed safety camera in Allanton-Waihola Rd, State Highway 1.

A New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman said the cameras were on track to begin in late July.

Last month, a camera on the same site was yanked from the ground and set on fire.

The fire was extinguished by Fire and Emergency New Zealand crew.

The NZTA spokesman said they were not aware of any further damage or vandalism, and they would be looking at all reasonable and practical measures to prevent and discourage vandalism of this type.

‘‘People need to be aware that intentional vandalism of NZTA property is a criminal offence and will be reported to police.’’
