After a year with no principal officially at the helm, a Dunedin secondary school have at last filled the role.

Yesterday, the Columba College board and board of governors said in a statement Auckland teacher Chay Carter has been appointed to the role.

‘‘We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Mrs Carter and warmly welcome her as our new principal.’’

She is due to start on October 27.

Columba College has been without a principal since July last year, when former principal Charissa Nicol went on leave for months and never returned.

Mrs Carter will be the school’s fourth principal since 2018.

At present, she is deputy principal at ACG Strathallan, a private school in Karaka, south of Auckland.

The board said Mrs Carter would bring with her extensive experience in educational leadership, staff capability development, student wellbeing, curriculum design, and strategic school improvement.

‘‘Crucially, Mrs Carter possesses a deep commitment to the special character of the college and demonstrates extensive experience within Presbyterian education ...

‘‘The Columba College community extends a very warm welcome to Mrs Carter ...,’’ the board said.

Mrs Carter could not be contacted yesterday. — Allied Media
