A tūī arrives at a North-East Valley backyard bird feeder. Today is the start of the 20th New Zealand Garden Bird Survey, and it will run until July 5. People wanting to take part are encouraged to spend one hour on one day at the best bird-spotting perch they can find, then use a tally sheet to count the number of birds they can see and hear. People can then submit their final count on the New Zealand Garden Bird Survey website.
