Those magnificent men, women and children and their miniature flying machines are in South Otago, all vying to see who is the best of the best.
The Model Flying New Zealand national championships are being staged at four venues until Sunday.
It is the first time the South Otago Model Aero Club has hosted the event and long-time local member and national event convener Antony Groenewegen was thrilled the weather had behaved itself so far.
The Balclutha Showgrounds is the official base but the competitions are also being staged at the Balclutha Aerodrome (radio-controlled and aerobatic) Mark Sinclair's farm between Balclutha and Clydevale (gliding) while all other flights will be conducted at the club's official field at Adams Flat, just south of Milton.
Wednesday winners were P Lagan, J R R Palmer (North Otago), J Shaw, J Wurts (Christchurch), and A J Knox (Christchurch).
