Letters to the Editor: choosing a new name for centre

The CODC is to decide on a name for Cromwell's new edifice (ODT, 23.12.25). Why, I ask? Has the council suddenly decided to make a major funding contribution towards its cost? It is my belief that the building has been paid for by the selling of Cromwell's real estate assets in Gair Ave, Cemetery Rd and endowment land. Surely the Cromwell citizens have the right to decide?

The new hall is a replacement for the Cromwell Memorial Hall which was partly funded by the government’s war memorial fund. Are we ignoring the fact that a light shone continuously inside with the words "Lest We Forget" written above it in memory of those that made the supreme sacrifice? The Cromwell Memorial Hall is appropriate, but the Cromwell Civic Centre could be more inclusive of the extra functions involved.
