The forecast shows showery and rainy weather will hit much of New Zealand at some stage during New Year’s Eve.
The only places that escape the inclement weather are Invercargill, Gore, Queenstown and Wanaka.
On New Year’s Day, Invercargill and surrounding areas are still the only place to remain dry.

"The weather systems that will be affecting New Zealand this week are low pressure systems and they look like they are moving in from the northwest and then gradually down the country.
"And I guess the circulation around those low pressure systems mean that it's mostly the North Island and most of the South Island that gets the bulk of that weather.
"The far south seems to miss out on it and Invercargill is likely to get some of the better weather, maybe drier weather.
"It's mostly due to where that low pressure system is moving and the circulation around it.
"I guess this time, they are the winners."
She said Invercargill did get "a bad rap" for weather because it was the most southerly city and the most exposed to cold Antarctic weather.
"Geographically speaking, if it was a question of between Invercargill and somewhere in the North Island, Invercargill would be more likely to be cooler, just because they are further south and closer to the coldest part of the world."
As the final week of 2025 unfolds, MetService is forecasting a mix of rain, wind, thunderstorms and cooler temperatures for much of the rest of New Zealand.
The rainband will sink further south, affecting eastern areas of the South Island from today until the end of the year.
However, the beauty of showers is they might give a few gaps to celebrate the year-end outside.
It is definitely a time to have a plan B for your new year festivities.
