Council gets input on plan

The question of growth was one of the big discussion points at Central Otago District Council 10-year plan submission hearings yesterday.

About 50 people spoke directly to their council on their submission on the Central Otago District Council 2018-28 10-year plan hearing.

People questioned the challenges of maintaining a peaceful Central Otago lifestyle as the district's population grew.

Feedback on the big four issues in the draft plan - Clyde wastewater project, Lake Dunstan water supply, upgrades to the Clyde heritage precinct and kerbside wheelie bin collection changes - were discussed, but many other points were raised.

The majority of submitters were supportive of projects and budgets in the draft plan.

Some submitters wondered if the council was doing enough to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Some suggested an entire district-wide masterplan instead of for only Cromwell.

Other submissions heard yesterday included concerns about the increased volume of traffic on Shortcut Rd at Cromwell and issues over noise pollution from orchard and vineyard frost fans and bird-scarers.

The council also heard a request for some money from dog registrations to be used to set up a dog park near Clyde and an offer from the Roxburgh and District Lions Club to develop another camping area at Pinders Pond, near Roxburgh.

Today, the council will review all submissions, discuss community board recommendations, advise of any amendments they wish to make to the plan, then review district rates.
