Few apply for 'Lend A Hand' funds

A Central Otago foundation has thousands of dollars to give away - but few groups or individuals seem to want it.

The TrustPower Central Otago Lend A Hand Foundation supports individuals and community groups in the district by providing funding, mentoring and advice. The foundation, which was launched last year, is a partnership between TrustPower and the Rotary clubs of Cromwell, Alexandra and Roxburgh.

Applications for the next round of funding close on April 29, but few have been received.

"We're sure there must be groups and individuals out there who could use our support," TrustPower community relations co-ordinator Pip Tschudin said.

The foundation had between $10,000 and $20,000 to distribute and grants given in the past ranged from $500 to $1500, she said.

A wide range of community projects, volunteer groups and individuals' needs had been supported in earlier funding rounds.
