Extreme knitter Jacinta Stevenson (left), of Plump & Co, in Hamilton, shows Kylee Knapp, of Alexandra, how to knit with metre-long needles at an extreme knitting workshop at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery last night.

It was an art form for those who thought outside the square, Stevenson said.

"We’re rogue knitters. There are no rules here."

The knitting was done with 2cm-diameter yarn and favoured creations were rugs, throws and wall hangings, she said.

"The stitches are ginormous. It’s addictive, because it’s so quick and gives instant gratification. Things grow very quickly."
