In a first for the programme this was the first year the initiative would be held in Hunting and Fishing stores around New Zealand and the first time it would run for two months, instead of the usual pop-ups held by Coastguard since 2014.
A Coastguard spokesman said the change in format meant people had more time and more locations to access the discounts on offer to ensure they have modern reliable lifejackets.
Members of the public can bring an old or damaged lifejacket and receive a $20-$30 discount on a range of Hutchwilco lifejackets.
The promotion was in-store only and discounts only applied to popular models such as the Mariner Classic, Aquavest Classic, and 170N Inflatable, the spokesman said.
