If you see 62 eccentrically-dressed adults roaming the southern countryside, do  not fear.

They will  be participants in the fourth annual Blue Light Southern Dash who began their journey in Queenstown yesterday in 23 decorated hire cars.

Organiser Murray O’Donnell said its goal was to empower young people by "having a bit of fun", which included playing a range of games and activities with them.

Through entry fees it raised $17,000 for the  Blue Light charity.

Yesterday the colourful clan visited the Stand Children’s Services  in Roxburgh and Millers Flat School before spending the night in Portobello.

Today they will visit Musselburgh School in South Dunedin and spend the night in Oamaru before heading back to Queenstown.

Part-time troll Mike Webster, of Auckland, said the look suited him as he "wasn’t the most attractive-looking guy".
