Tarras Golf Club grounds committee member Skip Johnston said renovations that took place over the past year were done to make the club more appealing to the public.
"Over the last year or so myself and John Templeton had upgraded the facilities that are already here.
"We’ve fixed up the tee block, added a new carpark and pulled out a lot of trees, just to present it better to the public."
Other golf clubs in the region had been harder to get on to due to the number of people wanting to play, Mr Johnston said.
"Cromwell and Wānaka golf courses have been hard to get into and Hāwea is nine holes as well. People have started to consider coming out to Tarras to play."
The Hāwea club is also up for sale, with many picking the new owners will turf the course altogether to develop the land.
"We are always welcoming new players.
"We want to welcome everyone," Mr Johnston said.
The course was owned by three farmers and was still a club, not a corporation, he said.
"At this stage people organise themselves, but if the number of players continues to grow we might have to put someone out there to help organise players."
Bigger groups of six or seven golfers struggled to get out and play at other clubs, he said.
"We still have the room for them, as long as they let other players through.
"Over the last three weeks the number of people coming to play has been just phenomenal. The amount of players coming and paying the green fee has basically doubled.
"We’re a good, country golf club trying to upmarket and it seems to be working."
A spokeswoman for the Wānaka Golf Club, an 18-hole course, said the club had put policies in place as it was near capacity.
Now with about 1500 members, the club had been swelling with visitors, she said.
"It is especially busy around Christmas and New Years, but most people can still get their tee time if they plan ahead.
"We try to educate members to be mindful that their tee bookings are like gold and you need to treat it like a doctor’s appointment, arriving on time and if [they] needed, cancelling early enough for other players to book that time," she said.
