Central Otago’s Southern Waters partner Waitaki has submitted its revised water plan to the government.
The Waitaki District Council unanimously voted to adopt a revised water services delivery plan at an extraordinary council meeting in Oamaru on Tuesday.
It joined Central Otago, Clutha and Gore district councils in Southern Waters after its first plan to go it alone with water services delivery was rejected by the Department of Internal Affairs.
Staff, assets and debt were due to transfer to Southern Waters in July next year.
There would be consultation with staff affected by the restructuring, a council statement said.
Water would not be included on rates bills from the 2027-28 financial year and residents will instead receive a separate water bill, it said.
Southern Waters will manage assets worth $684 million and deliver water to 84,000 people across almost 25,000sq km.
