Arrowtown entertainer Kevin Lynch has died after a long battle with cancer.

Dunedin-born Mr Lynch (60), whose career spanned more than 35 years, created the alter-ego Len the Loser, co-wrote the musical Rush! with fellow Arrowtown man David John, was a member of the 1970s Dunedin group X-Set and formed the popular family band The Lynch Mob.

He died on Wednesday night.

Despite his illness, Mr Lynch remained passionate about the family band, which last performed at the weekend.

The Lynch Mob took to the stage at Peregrine Winery on Saturday night, performing Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon to an invitation-only crowd, num-bering close to 400.

Mr Lynch, who organised the event, attended but did not take part.

During the evening, his daughter, Emma Pullar, hosted a gathering for her father's friends at her adjoining Gibbston home.

Mr Lynch is survived by his wife, Jenny, daughter Emma, and sons Ben, Nick and Tom.

An obituary will follow.
