Hawkins Construction, working on the Westin Hotel development at the site, organised a food drive among contractors and sub-contractors, and the proceeds were delivered to the Salvation Army's store in Queenstown yesterday.
Hawkins Construction quantity surveyor Neil Gough said the company wanted to give something back after the charity helped construction staff and their families earlier this year.
The Kawarau Falls development was placed in receivership in mid-2006.
At the time, the Salvation Army helped several families with food and also provided support and counselling.
Salvation Army community worker John Helvadjian said when the Kawarau Falls developers were placed in receivership, it affected many people working on the site.
"There were times when their hours were cut and they were laid off.
"We helped them with food and just to be there for them [if they needed it]."
Hawkins used monetary donations to buy discounted groceries from Fresh Choice.
The groceries filled the back of two of the company's utes, which pulled up outside the Salvation Army's Camp St store yesterday afternoon, with Santa Claus in tow to help unload the goods.
Mr Helvadjian was quick to thank those who delivered - and donated - the goods.
"We are so happy.
"We are very grateful to Hawkins Construction - it's all going to go to needy members of the community."
