It would be fair to say Tom Landreth, of Cromwell, has earned more than just a cup of tea.

The 99-year-old war veteran served in the Pacific during World War 2 and has been attending Anzac commemorations ever since.

This year was no exception.

"I missed out on the cemetery [service], but I was in plenty of time for the main service," he said, following the Cromwell Memorial Hall proceedings.

"[Anzac Day] is an opportunity to think back and remember the bad times and the good times. It's always been a fairly memorable day because my father served in World War 1, where he lost an arm in Passchendaele."

Mr Landreth's father, William, was a teacher at a country school in Owaka.

Mr Landreth moved to Cromwell 34 years ago, where he is well known among Anzac Day circles.
