The Alexandra Petanque Club welcomed players from Ashburton, Dunedin and Invercargill clubs to a new a tournament terrain in Springvale Rd at the weekend.It was the club’s first of many tournaments for 2026 — the Coventry Doubles and Sunday FunDay. The tournaments have been an annual event for many years and started after a team from Coventry, England, visited the Alexandra Club. A reciprocal tournament is held in Coventry each year — named Alexandra Tournament.
Increasing club membership led to finding the alternative terrain with 14 pistes and with space for expansion. The venue has been being developed for several years and includes plantings to enhance the surrounds and offer shade.
The alternative area would only be used when our existing terrain in Poole Rd was unable to cater for numbers at tournaments. Club day and small tournaments would continue at the existing site.
