Clutha District Council roading staff say no damage has been identified around the district's roads after this week's deluge.
One other road - MacFarlane Rd, near Clydevale - remained closed yesterday.
Elliotvale Rd near Tokoiti had reopened.
Water has receded from most other roads affected by rain although the council said motorists should still drive with caution around the district.
Two state highways were closed by flooding in the Southland District yesterday .
State Highway 99 between Invercargill and Riverton was closed at Underwood at 4pm while there was also water across the road on the same highway on the Lorneville-Wallacetown Highway, at McInerney Creek.
By 4pm yesterday, State Highway 6 was down to one lane at Makarewa bridge, with water across the road.
The peak flood level on the Makarewa River was not expected at the bridge until about 4.30pm yesterday and at the bridge on State Highway 99 east of Wallacetown about 6pm.
The Oreti River was "slowly receding" yesterday, but might be affected by high tide, at 5pm.
Southland District Council communications manager Louise Pagan said the roads affected by the flooding were not expected to open overnight and with more rain forecast overnight and today, it was possible further closures would be announced today.
Gore District Council roading manager Murray Hasler said the district had come through "relatively unscathed" from Wednesday night's rain, despite the closure of several small roads and surface flooding throughout the area.
The area had received around 50mm of rain but the main cause of the problems had been the flooding in the headwaters of the Mataura River and Waikaka Stream.
Three roads remained closed - McGregor Rd near Waikaka, McGibbon Rd at McNab and Waiarikiki Rd at the Gore District's southern boundary with Southland District Council.
Those roads were expected to stay closed until today at least but could be shut for several more days if forecast heavy rain eventuated.
The MetService forecast rain for the next eight days.
Constable Gus Robinson, of Gore, said about 35m of the Lowburn bridge, south of Mataura, had been submerged and the water was up to 60cm deep in some areas.
Two cars had gone off the road but nobody was injured.
State Highway 90 from Raes Junction to Tapanui was affected by flooding at Crookston and authorities were advising extreme caution when driving in the area.
Thunderstorms last night were expected to bring about 120mm of rain to Haast and Franz Josef, with intensities ranging between 20mm and 30mm an hour.
At Makarora, rainfall was expected to be heavy and the ORC would be keeping watch on the unpredictable Pipson Creek catchment, where a landslip about two weeks ago temporarily closed State Highway 6 between Makarora and Haast.
