Schools and parents in North Otago have been urged to put forward pupil-inspired environmental schemes in time for the third annual Toroa Award.
Now in its third year, the award is jointly run by the Department of Conservation (Doc) and the Otago Peninsula Trust. Doc coastal Otago community relations ranger Lucy Hardy said all schools and early childhood centres in the coastal Otago area, which included the Waitaki district as far inland as Duntroon, were eligible to take part.
She said the award recognised environmental action programmes undertaken by pupils, which supported conservation in their community.
Otago Peninsula Trust education adviser Sally Carson said the award had also been designed to fit into the school curriculum.
"We're asking for brief descriptions of the actions, benefits and community involvement in a recent or current project."
The award will be presented at the Otago Conservation Awards during Conservation week, from September 9-16.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Doc website.
Nominations close on August 27.
