Foote appointed to board

Waikouaiti farmer Geoff Foote was yesterday appointed to the Waihemo Community Board, following a landslide victory in the Waihemo Community Board by-election election.

There had been a vacant seat on the board since the resignation of Diane Curtis in June.

Preliminary results released by Waitaki District electoral officer Debbi Miall yesterday had Mr foote well ahead of the only other candidate, Palmerston businessman Stephen Wesselingh.

Mr Foote had gained 669 votes, to Mr Wesselingh's 117.

Electoral officer Debbi Miall said voter turnout had been 45%, with 789 voting papers received. Special votes had still to be counted.
