Kitten cops engine ride

It could have been a cat-astrophe.

A concerned member of the public flagged down Oamaru police chief Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy yesterday morning as he was on foot patrol and told him there was meowing coming from the engine of a parked car.

The car owner was tracked down, the bonnet opened and a kitten jumped out and scarpered, only to be apprehended by Sergeant Blair Wilkinson.

The black kitten is now in custody at the North Otago SPCA.

No decision had been made on whether it would be charged with failing to stop for police.
