Oamaru people are demanding TVNZ put their town on the weather map after Westport, with a population less than half the size, was added.
Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton took up the issue in December with TVNZ, and received a reply on Wednesday, that said his approach was being considered.
This week Westport, with a population of about 5000 people, has been added - Oamaru and its environs has 12,600.
Others on the map include Alexandra, which has a population of 4820, Hokitika (3900) and Greymouth (3680).
They appear on the weather map for all TVNZ weather forecasts including Breakfast, Midday, Te Karere, One News 4:30pm, One News 6pm, Tonight and all bulletins on TVNZ7.
Mr Familton told TVNZ residents were concerned about Oamaru being omitted from the map.
"Having Oamaru on the map is important to local people and the Waitaki district," he said.
TVNZ was now reviewing the situation, as a result of Mr Familton's letter, and could make a decision within the next two weeks, a TVNZ spokeswoman said yesterday.
Yesterday, Oamaru people agreed the town should be put on the map - Graham Robinson reckoned the reason why it was not there was because "the town did not like the way TV One pronounced Oamaru".
When it does feature on the news, it is usually pronounced "oh-omaru" rather than the locals' "Omaru".
He was angry Oamaru was not included and said the town had put in a new weather station, supposedly linked to television, to provide readings.
Nicky Williams said leaving Oamaru out "pretty much stinks".
"We have more flavoursome weather this side than the other side", comparing the east to the West Coast.
TV3 has Oamaru on its weather map and, if it could do it, so could TV One, she said.
"Of course it should be on," Lynda Clark said.
Others spoken to by the Otago Daily Times all agreed, including Bruce Sewell, who said it was not fair Oamaru was left out.
Oamaru's temperature was previously on the TV One weather map, but removed some time ago, which caused a storm of protest.
The fact it has remained off has upset locals.
One News editor Paul Patrick decided to include Westport on the weather map despite its small population.
"The weather has a significant impact on lifestyles and livelihoods and it also brings Westport into line with the rest of the country, where we have a forecast for the biggest urban area in each province or major region," he said.
