A big crowd is expected at the Waimate District Council meeting today to protest at bureaucracy that threatens the town's Christmas Extravaganza this year.
For the past two years, pharmacists Anne and Paul Townend have converted upstairs office space into a 16-room Christmas wonderland.
It attracted 6600 visitors last year, many making the special trip to Waimate for the event.
But provisions in the Government's Building Act, enforced by the district council, led to the event being cancelled this year, with Mr and Mrs Townend planning to take it out of town.
A text message had circulated, urging people to turn up at the meeting to protest about the way the event is being treated.
