An audit of Alliance Group's Pukeuri plant by Chinese authorities has been confirmed and the Oamaru plant could be exporting to China again by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities have temporarily lifted the suspension to enable the plant to make products eligible for export to China once the suspension is lifted permanently.
Officials from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine will visit the plant later this month to confirm it is meeting China's requirements.
A Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) spokesman said audits were part of the normal interactions between the regulators of countries and provided assurances the systems New Zealand uses to produce food were robust
''We welcome audits from other countries as they ensure that we, and other countries, can continue to be confident our systems.''
The Pukeuri works' sheep and lamb season has been extended to ensure processing is being done there at the time of the Chinese audit.
MPI twice suspended Pukeuri's licence to export to China last July.
The suspensions were because of a labelling error and the incorrect exportation of products to China from a facility not listed by Chinese authorities.
