Two hospitalised after serious Oamaru assault

Two people have been hospitalised after a serious assault in Oamaru last night.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Booth, of Oamaru, said police attended the scene at a Tern St address about 9.30pm after reports of a physical altercation that involved three males.

Two of the men suffered injuries and as a result, one was admitted to Oamaru Hospital and the other was transported to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance.

A St John spokesman said the man transported to Oamaru Hospital had minor injuries.

Details of the injuries suffered by the man transported to Dunedin were not immediately available.

The third person involved was not believed to have been injured.

Police were in the process of interviewing witnesses and inquiries were continuing, Det Sgt Booth said.

No further information was available.
