The Otago Regional Council yesterday moved closer to extending its size by one councillor to 12.
It agreed the plan should be put out for public consultation.
The extra member, which would need the approval of the Local Government Commission, would increase representation for the Dunstan constituency to three, in line with population growth. The constituency covers the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago districts.
