A Queenstown graphics design agency is looking to turn its shift of premises into an opportunity to highlight local creative talent in its new office-cum-gallery.

Fluid Visual Communications's new office on Memorial St is fronted by a working space that will host temporary exhibitions and operate as a client welcome area from day to day.

Creative director Tim Buckley said Queenstown's creative community was overlooked and undervalued, compared to those in main centres.

"The fact is, this region attracts some of the most creative people in New Zealand, who are inspired by the landscape and lifestyle."

When not in exhibition mode, the gallery would be a space to meet clients but might also host gatherings such as debates and pecha-kucha nights.

"Fluid is part of that [creative] community and we want to provide opportunities to highlight local talent. Our own team includes people with a background in jewellery design, illustration, photography and creative writing."

Fluid graphic designer Annika Dawkins said the space held opportunities to showcase local artists who did not have other chances to exhibit.

"I don't think there's much of that in Queenstown, with a gallery and meeting place with the ability to show creative works that's not about value and resale."

The gallery will display work from other local talent among Fluid's suppliers, including photographers, artists and freelance designers, as well as Fluid team side projects.

Mr Buckley founded Fluid in 1999 and the company has since worked with organisations such as Skyline, Queenstown Airport, Winterfestival and QLDC.
