Seeking to lift tenant ban

An application was made in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday to seek the lifting of an injunction prohibiting tenants living in Wanaka company director Dr Fiona Graham's Tenby St premises.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council shut down Dr Graham's Wanaka Gym Ltd in August, after it obtained an injunction to evict 19 tenants from the property.

A court order agreed with the council's contention that fire and safety concerns indicated the Tenby St building was too dangerous, and prohibited the property being used as a residence.

Dr Graham is believed to be in Japan.

She has claimed the council "made my life hell" with its actions against her company-owned property.

The Otago Daily Times understands the "Wanaka Gym" premises remains unoccupied.

Judge Raoul Neave reserved his decision on the civil matter.
