ARROWTOWN architect Louise Wright warns the much-appreciated heritage character of homes in the ‘old’ part of the township risks being lost due to the government’s new planning regime. That's because the gist of the newly-passed Planning Act, one of two acts replacing the Resource Management Act, is to enable people do to what they want on their land - and only "significant heritage" has to be retained. It's possible, she says, the entirety of Arrowtown's heritage zone may not rise to that level.
