Final results deliver change of fortune for councillor

One-term Queenstown Lakes district councillor Cody Tucker has been narrowly re-elected in the Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward by a 34-vote margin from two other candidates.

The final results of the elections, which were released about 4pm, were a turnaround for Cr Tucker after provisional results on Monday showed him behind on votes to Yeverley McCarthy.

They confirm Kinloch's John Glover as the new mayor, receiving 4599 votes ahead of incumbent Glyn Lewers (3244 votes), Nik Kiddle (2108 votes), Darren Rewi (1671 votes), Al Angus (874 votes), and Daniel Shand (125 votes). 

In the Arrowtown-Kawarau Ward, the final results are: Heath Copland (1927 votes), Melissa White (1730 votes) and Samuel 'Q' Belk (1703 votes).

In the Queenstown-Whakatipu Ward, the final results are: Matt Wong (2287 votes), Gavin Bartlett (2002 votes), Stephen Brent (1924 votes) and Jon Mitchell (1689 votes). Four-term councillor Craig Ferguson missed re-election by 41 votes.

The final results in the Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward are: Nicola King (3610 votes), incumbent deputy mayor Quentin Smith (3394 votes), Niki Gladding (2863 votes), and Cr Tucker (2039 votes). Mrs McCarthy and Craig Gasson both received 2005 votes.

In the Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board the final results are: Simon Telfer (3967 votes), Kathy Dedo (3803 votes), John Wellington (2900 votes) and Chris Hadfield (2235 votes).

The final voter return was 41.16%, being 12,927 votes, which was down on a 43.05% return in 2022.
