Cheese rolls a good fundraiser

With winter months impending, it was decided to have our monthly tea meetings at an earlier time.

On Monday, May 18, we met at the Waimate Town & Country Club at 4pm.

President Rita Stewart welcomed 16 members.

A small amount of business followed, with members and their friends being thanked for helping out with the cheese roll making.

It is always a big effort, but the social interaction turns it into a fun day and a good fundraiser.

The club has donated two seats to the Rotary raffle hut at New World to replace the ones there.

On May 25, nine members went to The Barn in Waimate for an enjoyable lunch.

We thanked Lois for organising our social events each month.

With no speaker for this meeting, Lion Christine Dirs made up a quiz of local and international questions, and a photo board of prominent people.

These tested everyone’s brains, especially the local ones, which become quite frustrating when you know that you know them.

It was fun, with Rita, Lois, Rowena and Judy coming out the winners.

They all received a lovely jar of Butler’s jam.

Raffles were won by Mavis Andrew and Jan Pankhurst.

Lion tamer Rowena had jokes for us and managed to fine us all.

With no further business, Rita declared the meeting closed and it was time for our meal.

A lovely two-course affair was served, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The earlier starting time meant members got home to their fires before the cold of the night set in. — Judy McRae
