'German town' theme

Early German settlers who made their home in Waimate will be the focus of the town's Edwardian heritage weekend on March 9 and 10.

Waimate information officer Donette Fargher said details were being finalised, but the theme would be Waimate's German settlers who in the early 1860s established a small community known as "German town" in the Mill Rd area.

One of the weekend's highlights will be a "Heritage Homes and Gardens" bus tour featuring homes built by German families, a history of old German town, displays of German art and china, and afternoon tea.

The annual Promenade in the Park will be held at Seddon Sq on March 10 and includes an antiques roadshow and children's activities.

Further information on the activities is available from the Waimate Information Centre.
