The video, produced by Bidwill Trust Hospital’s theatre sterilising unit, was now being shown in hospitals across New Zealand to highlight the crucial role sterilisation played in protecting patients from infection.
The video, created by team leader Christian Apacible, recently won the New Zealand Sterile Sciences Association’s national competition for showcasing best practice in sterilisation.
The NZSSA served as a pivotal organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in sterile practices across the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors in New Zealand.
"Our entry underlines that every step in the reprocessing cycle matters," Mr Apacible said.
"Missing even one step can put patient safety at risk. This isn’t just about awareness — it’s about changing mindsets and building an uncompromising commitment to standards over shortcuts."
Bidwill Theatre Manager Rebecca Healey said the hospital’s sterilisation processes met the highest benchmarks.
"Every load that leaves our unit is verified as sterile, consistent and safe. That means the same high standard for every instrument, every set, every time."
General Manager Tina Rogers says the hospital’s board is proud of the recognition.
"Sterilising services are one of the most critical — but least visible — functions of a hospital.
"It’s a highly technical process that ensures our delicate and expensive equipment is always safe for patients." — Allied Media
