The South Canterbury development team were once again in dominating form, winning the Zone 6 Development Speight’s Southern Quadrangular in Dunedin over the weekend.Team selector and coach Bruce Scott said he was extremely pleased with the team, the way they played and how they conducted themselves on and off the green.

Scott made special mention of team captain Gareth Burgees and said he was in sensational form over the weekend.

‘‘[He] led his team brilliantly ... picking up perfect results, winning all five fours games.’’

Burgees’ team of Anthony Holland, Jason Browning and Kevin Stuart dominated their opposition.

Playing in wet conditions, the two pairs teams combined to save rinks for other teams.

The second fours team of Jarrod Barker, Paul Brohan, Andrew Bell, and Kieran Aker played together for first time and had two great wins and three narrow losses to bigger unions.

In the singles Nigel Mobberley once again showed good form, picking up four impressive wins.

His only loss came to Dunedin’s 12-year-old young gun Jordan McEwan, who has a big future in game.

The win has capped off an outstanding season so far, the development team having also won the Northern Quadrangular earlier in the season.
