Threads, talent and tradition will be on display as the Temuka Embroidery Guild prepares to open its doors to the community next month.

The guild is inviting members of the community to discover the creativity, craftsmanship and friendship that embroidery offers at its upcoming open day on July 6.

During the open day at the Hato Hone St John Ambulance rooms in King St, visitors will have the opportunity to view members’ work, current members and learn more about the activities of the guild.

Admission is free, and visitors are invited to drop in any time between 10am and 2pm.

In a statement, guild secretary Jenny Bolitho said embroidery was more than just needle and thread.

"It is a creative outlet that encourages relaxation, mindfulness and personal expression while preserving a rich heritage of textile arts.

"Many members find that the weekly gatherings provide both inspiration and companionship.

"Whether you are an experienced stitcher, a beginner looking to learn a new skill or simply curious about embroidery, you will be made very welcome."

The guild embraces a wide variety of embroidery styles, from traditional crewel work and cross stitch to contemporary textile art and mixed-media embroidery. — Allied Media.
