The Milford community continues to support its own.

The Milford Community Charitable Trust held its annual presentation of grants along with a community Christmas potluck dinner late last year.

The trustees invite applications from people within the Milford area seeking study grants to enable them to undertake a tertiary or vocational education programme or a life skills course.

The trust was formed in 2007 to administer funds received from the sale of the Milford School property, which was closed due to amalgamation. The school property was originally given to the district by the late J.T.M. Hayhurst on March 6, 1871.

Applicants to the charitable trust must either be former pupils of Milford School, or their parents or grandparents were former pupils, or they live in the Milford district.

Grants are made available for educational or vocational training or personal development, preference being given to educational training.
