$100,000 boost for schools

A new education programme aimed at raising pupil achievements will be launched officially for a cluster of South Otago schools this afternoon.

The Big River Cluster, which includes 14 Clutha schools, will receive funding of $100,000 a year for the next four years.

A ministry spokesperson will launch the Extending High Standards Across Schools (EHSAS) programme at Rosebank Primary School today at 4pm.

Kaitangata Primary School is the lead school and will run the programme on behalf of the 13 other schools.

Kaitangata Primary School principal Joyce Beck said it was an exciting day for the schools and the start of a programme that would benefit all involved.

The ministry's website said EHSAS provided funding for schools to develop and extend their proven practices in collaboration with other schools.

‘‘The emphasis is on developing professional networks and improving the evidence base around processes and practices that contribute to improved student outcomes,'' the site says.
