A community effort months in the making was celebrated at Kaitangata on Saturday.
Hundreds turned out to the official opening of the town's new BMX track after a market day in the Kaitangata Town Hall.
Food stalls and other activities were based around the track.
Hundreds of hours of effort by a group of volunteers and businesses has seen an empty section turned into a year-round attraction for children of all ages.
Kaitangata and Districts Promotions co-ordinator Jean Proctor said the huge community effort was an outstanding example of how a community could work together to create a tremendous asset for everyone to enjoy.
Young members of the Black Gold BMX club, who instigated the project, handed out plaques of appreciation to the many local businesses and others who contributed.
A series of races for children of all ages, including a celebrity section, capped off the celebrations.
MP Pete Hodgson officially cut the ribbon with the help of Dallas Storer, who was instrumental in getting the track project completed.
