After working with local businesses for over a year, organisers managed to set up the garden to be used and maintained by locals.
Cr Ludemann spoke at the opening of the garden and untied the ribbon.
Some of the garden’s first produce was given to pensioners and residents at Naish Court in Balclutha.
It was very well received, she said.
Mrs Pratt said the community garden would not have been possible without the help of several local businesses and individuals.
The apple tree planted at the opening would one day bear fruit for all to enjoy, she said.
