Further details have emerged about Saturday’s reports of disorder in Milton, which began with a 21st party held at the Toko Rugby Football Club rooms.
Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said police were called to the party of about 50 to 60 people.
Half the attendees were reportedly in good spirits.
‘‘The other half were extremely intoxicated and belligerent towards police,’’ Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
A local police officer attended and requested back-up after his vehicle tyre was deflated while he was dealing with party-goers.
Another officer arrived, but had ‘‘a glass bottle thrown at him, which required to be dodged’’.
‘‘This was thrown from the darkness.’’
Further units arrived from Dunedin to assist and the party settled down quickly, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
Later, police received calls about ‘‘further assault and more disorder’’ from a group related to the 21st party, who had gathered at a nearby residential address.
No arrests were made and inquiries were continuing.
Acting Snr Sgt Notman earlier told the Otago Daily Times police removed a man ‘‘who received injuries from a bottling’’, but it was unclear at which event this occurred.
A member of the public said the bottling occurred at the second gathering.
Toko Rugby Football Club seniors president Bradley Frost previously told the ODT the party was a BYO event and the venue was hired out to a Milton resident.
The Toko team played in Clutha that day and, to his knowledge, the event was not affiliated with the rugby club, Mr Frost said.
