Two men, who between them have given about seven decades' service to the area regarded as the spiritual home of scouting in South Otago, were recognised for their efforts on Saturday.

Murray Moore and Brian Robertson had both played important roles in establishing the GreenPark scout camp, south of Balclutha - mowing its vast lawns, constructing buildings, and handling bookings and other important management.

Retiring scout leader Peter Vucetich said both men were instrumental in making GreenPark "what it is today, and will continue to be". Mr Vucetich also received an award recognising his six-year stint as scout leader. The men received paintings of the camp, creations of Kaka Point artist Jan O'Callaghan.

Mr Robertson said he and Mr Moore derived great pleasure from their time at the camp. He arrived in South Otago in 1979, and had given nearly 30 years' service. Mr Moore began scouting work in the mid-1960s.
