Shed fire not believed suspicious

Firefighters work to extinguish a fire which engulfed a shed  at Wilson Rd near Glenomaru Valley yesterday.

Fire services were alerted to the blaze about 4pm. Balclutha station officer Mike Harris said the shed was "basically on the ground upon arrival".

Four appliances were sent from the Balclutha station and one tanker  sent from Owaka.

Mr Harris said a cause for the fire was yet to be determined but it was not being treated as suspicious.

Fire investigators would arrive today to determine the cause.

No animals or people were injured by the fire.

"There’s a rat or a fly that might be a bit homeless," Mr Harris said.

The shed had a lot of firewood in it which made it more difficult to extinguish.

However, the fire was under control within "minutes", he said.
