George Berney (80), of Balcutha, competed in the 20th annual Super Masters Games in the Balclutha War Memorial Hall yesterday.

Event organiser Tony Newton said the event gave the older generation a ``day out'' and some lighthearted but competitive fun.

Over 100 senior citizens from Clutha district rest-homes and clubs took part in a series of five carefree games such as skittles, floor netball and darts.

Mr Newton said the seniors looked forward to the event which was a highlight of their year.

The games were preceded by an official opening ceremony complete with a parade and lighting of the Super Masters torch.

South Otago High School pupils Ashton Tourell and Sophie Mills also attended the event with guest speaker Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan.

Mr Newton said the organising committee planned to have a big celebration for its 21st year as he considered it a more important milestone than the 20th.
