A 44-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter over the death of pensioner following a car park altercation.
A police spokesman said yesterday a 78-year-old man died on February 1 following an altercation in the car park of a local licensed premises in Invercargill on January 28.
It was unclear which was the exact location of the incident but ILT chief executive Chris Ransay did not deny yesterday it was one of their establishments.
ILT runs 23 hospitality businesses, including accommodation, bars and restaurants, conference facilities, liquor stores, neighbourhood taverns and out-catering across the South Island.
"We aware of an incident in a car park, but because it is front of the courts we can’t talk about it."
No ILT staff were involved in the incident, Mr Ransay said.
The 44-year-old man, who was charged with manslaughter, was due to appear in Invercargill District Court next Thursday, police said in a statement.
Police declined further comment.
