Police hunt armed attackers

The armed offenders squad was last night chasing three alleged assailants following a serious assault with a weapon in Invercargill.

Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle said the male victim sustained head and facial injuries and was taken to Southland Hospital, after the attack at his home at 7.50pm.

The man's 10-year-old son, who was present during the attack, was unharmed but traumatised.

The three male attackers wore face masks and carried weapons, possibly a pistol, she said.

A dog at the property was attacked and seriously injured.

The attackers left in a white two-door car, Snr Sgt Windle said.
