Possible CBD agreement

It appears Nelson property developer Gaire Thompson and the Invercargill City Council may have come to an agreement regarding the Invercargill inner city development.

Yesterday, the ICC put on the meeting agenda section of its website that it would be holding an extraordinary general meeting today. The public would be excluded.

The meeting agenda states it is in relation to the judicial review proceedings by Invercargill property developer Gaire Thompson.

The only member of the public not excluded from the meeting would be council lawyer Riki Donnelly.

Mr Thompson yesterday confirmed the meeting was in relation to the CBD block development — the development funded by HWCP Management Group and the council.

When asked if he had started court proceedings again, Mr Thompson replied, "it hasn’t gone to substantiative hearing stage yet".

"The council and us have come to a tentative agreement but it has to be ratified and HWCP has to ratify it as well, so we can’t say anything until they’ve [ICC] had the meeting."

Mr Thompsonwas able to delay the start of demolition when he sought an injunction until a substantiative hearing could be held to determine whether the council should have publicly notified resource consent amendments.
