Three people have been injured, one seriously, in a crash on State Highway 94 (the Milford Road) this morning.
Police this afternoon said the two-vehicle crash was reported about 10.30am.
The road was partially blocked for a time, causing traffic to back up, but was clear by about 2.30pm.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said they responded with one helicopter and one ambulance.
One person had been airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition. Two other people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said there was widespread ice and grit in the area, and urged caution on the road.
It's one of a spate of crashes in the South this morning, after wintry conditions brought freezing temperatures, black ice and fog to many areas.
