The four-member team of Linda Thomson, Kathryn Wilson, Christine Mitchell and Gail Ibbotson comfortably won the national women's club finals after being the top team out of 14 around the country.
It is the third title in four years for the small South Otago club, which boasts only about 12 regular women members.
The successful campaign began earlier this year when its members played a qualifying round among themselves to decide which four players would represent the club at the Otago finals at Alexandra in April.
That match was played against another 20 Otago clubs whose combined net scores were then sent to New Zealand Golf to determine the provincial winner.
When Owaka won that, it was then up against 13 other provincial clubs, which held similar events on courses up and down the country.
The Owaka team's 119 net score was calculated, along with its course rating, player handicaps and other figures for a final result of -26.6. That was four points ahead of runner-up Hawkes Bay, while the Southland team from Riverton was third.
The Owaka group was preparing for its weekly round at the nine-hole course when it got the call informing it of the victory. Suffice to say, there was little golf played at the club that day.
The Owaka team will be presented with its third national trophy at an eagles event in Arrowtown in October.
