Olivia Caldwell finds the perfect platter at Paddons Paddock in Wānaka.

It is food platter season, there is no doubt about it. There is nothing better than sitting down in the sun with a wine and a giant platter to share between friends.

Throw in some live music and you really have it made.

Paddons Paddock in Wānaka is your star venue for all of the above. It hosts local and visiting artists during summer and it’s a relaxed venue where you can either sit back and enjoy the entertainment or get up and dance.

You’ll find me by the food platter.

So what sort of food is on offer at Paddons Paddock?

There is a simple menu, but pretty good for what you’re after on a relaxed Sunday in the sun. There is pizza for all tastes — we grabbed the prosciutto pizza, which was tasty.

But it was the Paddock Platter that impressed our tastebuds.

It has everything — three meats, salami, chorizo and prosciutto, salmon, two giant slabs of cheese, sundried tomatoes, olives, cashew nuts, relish, gherkins and dried apricot.

It’s a giant size and would feed several.

I love ordering a platter but it can often be disappointing when you pay a good lump sum to see two little slices of cheese. But at Paddons Paddock, they’re generous!

On top of that you have the beautiful wine and I would argue my favourite of all the local Wānaka wines, especially Paddons Paddock rose. The riesling also has a beautiful, sweet kick to it.

An excellent spot to gather over the busy summer period.
